Troubling news for the iconic SENATOR THEATER in Baltimore. It now looks like the reopening will not happen until Spring 2013 as opposed to the originally stated 6-9 months.
This John Zink treasure has had its share of disappointments in the last few months. THS is fortunate to have toured it prior to the transfer of ownership and all the angst that has followed. We’ll keep a good thought and hope that all is well for one of America’s most revered Art Deco treasure!

ALSO: The Baltimore Business Journal is also reporting the surprising news that the theater is being sold to the Cusack family by the City of Baltimore. This removes a security level of oversight to the demolition and rebuilding that has been on going.
The theater is a rare example of John Zink’s best Art Deco/WPA design style – great care is needed to preserve this decor!
Preservationists are asking: Who will be overseeing this project?

Mike, read this……this is how a Heinz Hall gets to be…..no overseer with sensitivity……this is an assignment for you to go down there and watch them like a hawk.
